Worth growing just for the absolutely perfect buns of tiny dense green leaves. Decked out with small pink flowers in spring. A precious plant native to mediterranean rocky slopes. One of our absolute favorites. As Dianthus go, fairly gopher resistant due to the prickly leaves.

Possibly my favorite Dianthus. Hard spiny domes of green, dotted with stemless dark pink flowers in early summer. A Turkish delight worth testing for deer resistance. Very tough and relatively gopher resistant as well due to prickly leaves.

Delightful alpine Dianthus forms tiny grey green mounds. The mounds expand with luminous red-rose flowers in late spring. Keeps blooming even in the heat. A favorite from the Balkan Mts.
